Water Games III

Thought I was done with the Water Games?  Hahaha!  Here's some more for you.  Are you having fun yet?

  • Ice Ice Baby.  Make some different flavored ice cubes and pop into your glass or bottle.  Even more fun is if you add a little food coloring to it.  This little game even gets kids to drink their water.
  • Text Me!  Set up a schedule to SMS yourself with this tool:  http://www.textreminders.net
  • Oh Enchanted Evening (or Day).  The whole day long, drink your water from stemware, poured from a fancy water jug.  You'll feel spoiled, and it's just water!
  • Garnished Water.  Garnish your water with lemon slices, lime slices, mint, rosemary, cucumber, or tomatoes.

Water Games II

Tried out any of those Water Games yet?  I have a few more for you!

  • Flavor Game I.  This one is to find out how temperature affects the taste of water.  You may find out that you like water hotter or colder than just tap!  Make sure you use water from the same source for all the different temperatures.  You'll need a glass or cup of water at these temperatures:
    • Room temperature (just let a glass sit on the counter for an hour or so)
    • Iced
    • Hot water heated over a stove top
    • Hot water heated in the microwave
    • Refrigerated water
    • Tap water
It's even more fun if you get a bunch of friends together to try it out together.  You'll be amazed at how different the waters taste, even though they're all from the same place.
  • Flavor Game II.  Add some flavor to your water!  You can add all sorts of things to it to get your 64oz in.  Pure water is always the best choice, but if you just can't endure the taste (or non-taste) of it, add one or two of these:
    • Flavored Stevia (orange, peach, vanilla, root beer, lemon, lime)
    • A squeeze of lemon or lime juice
    • A wee little bit of stevia and a wee little bit of apple cider vinegar (it's not bad if it's diluted enough)
    • Part of a bullion cube (to taste, of course)
    • A pinch of celtic sea salt
  • Fooling the world.  If you're into controversy and pushing people's buttons, go get a flask and fill it with water.  You'll be the talk of office if you try that one!  (Just be sure to let your boss know in advance so there's no trouble...)

Water Games

Getting at least 64oz of water in each day is a daunting task unless you plan it out.  Sometimes you plan carefully, but I think it's better to make a game of it.  Here's some Water Games for you to try out.

  • Get a water buddy!  Select someone you contact several times a day and create an agreement to make sure you start your conversations with a glass of water in hand & that you won't finish your conversation until the water is gone.
  • Break Chugging.  Sounds funny, doesn't it?  The gist is that every time you feel the need to "go," you grab your bottle of water and chug at least three big gulps before entering the bathroom and three big gulps after you leave the bathroom.  The great part about that is that it creates a cycle for the need to "go" sooner!
  • Commercial Sports.  When you sit down to watch TV, make sure you've got a big glass of water next to you.  *Every* new commercial, take a drink of water.  Since there's several commercials in a commercial break, you should be able to get 3-6 drinks of water in that time.

Drink your water!

Health Benefits of Water
How 8 Glasses a Day Keeps Fat Away

Incredible as it may seem, water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off. Although most of us take for granted, water may be the only true "magic potion" for permanent weight loss.
Water supresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits.
Here's why: The kidneys can't function properly without enough water. When they don't work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver. One of the liver's primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. But if the liver has to do some of the kidney's work it can't operate at full throttle. As a result, it metabolizes less fat more fat remains stored in the body and weight loss stops.
Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention. When the body gets less water,it perceives this as a threat to survival and begins to hold on to every drop. Water is stored in extracellular spaces (outside the cell). This shows up as swollen feet, legs and hands.
Diuretics offer a temporary solution at best. They force out stored water along with some essential nutrients. Again, the body perceives a treat and will replace the lost water at the first opportunity. Thus, the condition quickly returns.
The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give your body what it needs -- plenty of water. Only then will stored water be released.
If you have a constant problem with water retention, excess salt may be to blame. Your body will tolerate sodium only in a certain concentration. The more salt you eat the more water your system retains to dilute it.
But getting rid of unneeded salt is easy -- just drink more water. As it's forced through the kidneys it takes away excess sodium.
The overweight person needs more water than a thin one. Larger people have larger metabolic loads. Since we know that water is the key to fat metabolism, it follows that the over weight person needs more water.
Water helps to maintain proper muscle tone by giving muscles their natural ability to contract and by preventing dehydration. It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weigh loss -- shrinking cells are buoyed by water which plumps the skin and leaves it clear, healthy and resilient.
Water helps rid the body of waste. During weight loss, the body has a lot more waste to get rid of -- all that metabolized fat must be shed. Again, adequate water helps flush out the waste.
Water can help relieve constipation. When the body gets too little water, it siphons what it needs from internal sources. The colon is one primary source. Result? Constipation. But when a person drinks enough water, normal bowel function usually returns.
So far, we've discovered some remarkable truths about water and weight loss:
  • The body will not function properly without enough water and can't metabolize stored fat efficiently.
  • Retained water shows up as excess weight.
  • To get rid of excess water you must drink more water.
  • Drinking water is essential to weight loss.
How much water is enough? On the average, a person should drink eight 8-ounce glasses every day. That's about 2 quarts. However, the overweight person needs one additional glass for every 25 pounds of excess weight. The amount you drink also should be increased if you exercise briskly or if the weather is hot and dry.
Water should preferably be cold. It's absorbed into the system more quickly than warm water. And some evidence suggests that drinking cold water can actually help burn calories. To utilize water most efficiently during weight loss, follow this schedule:

Morning: 1 quart consumed over a 30-minute period.
Noon: 1 quart consumed over a 30-minute period.
Evening: 1 quart consumed between five and six o'clock.

When the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, it's fluids are perfectly balanced. When this happens, you have reached the "breakthrough point." What does this mean?
  • Endocrine-gland function improves.
  • Fluid retention is alleviated as stored water is lost.
  • More fat is used as fuel because the liver is free to metabolize stored fat.
  • Natural thirst returns.
  • There is a loss of hunger almost over night.
If you stop drinking enough water, your body fluids will be thrown out of balance again, and you may experience fluid retention, unexplained weight gain and loss of thirst. To remedy the situation you'll have to go back and force another "breakthrough."

WaterCure

Quickly, I wanted to share a link to a video about the Water Cure.

Excellent information and so totally true that Doctors aren't sharing the info with you because there's no coin in it for them.

Sad, but true.

This is part 1 of 3, so be sure to look for the other 2!

P3: Back under LDW

This morning, I awoke, fully expecting that I'd either have the same weight as yesterday (a test day gone the wrong direction and I was at +1.0# LDW, after I gained 1.9# overnight) or that I'd be a little heavier. I completely forgot to follow my own rule to stay at the high level of water drinking that you adapt to while in VLCD part of the Protocol. What did I do?

Um. I drank coffee. Not just coffee. I drank 10oz coffee with 10 drops french vanilla stevia, 5oz Half-n-half, and 5oz heavy whipping cream. (Absolutely divine, btw - you gotta try that one out.) Did I eat anything? Well...

[begin excuses] I was busy. I was dirty. It was cold outside. I was upstairs & there wasn't any water. The door of my room was blocked because I was moving furniture. [end excuses]

The short answer is, no, I didn't eat anything until after 3pm. Not a single thing. SHAME ON ME!

[begin thoughts at self] Naughty, naughty, naughty! No water AND no food? What are you trying to do to yourself? Gain weight again?? Stop it! You're hurting my... Quit it! [end thoughts at self]

The great news is that my body just wants to be at LDW or below right now. So, what did it do for me? It put me right back down to -.3# LDW. I love my body for this gift this morning! So, today, I've started the day off right, with 40oz of water before my first cup of Divine Coffee & an omelet and apple to go with the Divine Coffee. :)

Hopefully, I'll be rewarded even further tomorrow.

lol.

Water - getting a gallon or more down per day

Mom and I were just talking and she asked me to let everyone know that if you really want to drink a lot of water, drink it through a straw. It works for Mom very well, but not so much for me. Personally, I like to just glug it down from a 22 ounce jug until the water's gone, then set it aside and switch back to tea.

My own schedule for water looks like this:
22oz @ 7AM
22oz @ 11:30AM (while we're making lunch)
22oz @ 3PM
22oz @ 5PM (while we're making supper)
22oz @7PM (while making dessert)
22oz just before bed

So, I get about 2 gallons of water down me each day. Then I also drink about 40oz of some kind of tea, either rooibus, honeybush, or green. AND I drink about 10oz of water each time I get up in the night, too! No wonder we go through so much TP!
