Scale Weight vs. Body Fat

Scale weight is -by far, the worst way of measuring fat loss. Most of your weight fluctuations are from volume of food eaten, volume of food in digestions, volume of waste eliminated, fluid shifts from sodium, hormones, urination, etc. Your lean body weight can fluctuate 5 pounds in one day on this protocol!

Try this experiment, compare your weight this evening to what you weighted this morning. Then see how much you weigh tomorrow morning. You will notice your weight drops close to 3 pounds while sleeping at night.

This is why I recommend a scale that measures body fat composition, better yet, get your percentage measured weekly with calipers from a qualified and practiced tester.

Instead of measuring daily, measure every few days, to allow enough time for body fat weight to drop significantly. Based on your size (height and weight) and what you burned on your first protocol, you are going to burn less then 3 pounds of fat a week. There's 3500 kcals in 1 pound of fat so unless your body required 3,500 kcals in expenditure on this protocol, you are going to lose less then 1 pound a day.

Most of your fluctuations are from the weight of the majority of your body which is lean body mass.

In conclusion...the scale sucks. Use a piece of clothing to measure if you need the reassurance.

Leptin Explaination, Guest Blogger Robin

Research shows people with too much fat produce too much Leptin. As fat metabolism increases more fat energy seeps into the blood stream. If the body is not creating demand through expenditure, resting blood glucose levels rise and to maintain safe levels, the glucose must be converted to glycerol strands that eventually create more adipose tissue...

In a nut shell, more Leptin makes fat energy available, and if expenditure doesn't equal the amount of energy seeping into the blood, the energy gets converted back into fat. This makes food intake needs drop, and when eating a normal diet, blood glucose levels elevate more then normal, and fat is created. It's a vicious cycle.

The protocol keeps Leptin levels stable as the very low calorie protocol creates demand for the fat. Because the specific amount of hCG stimulates Leptin, once again, normal food intake would predispose fat production (even though it doesn't make caloric sense).

The very low calorie protocol counters the elevated Leptin levels and the hCG keeps Leptin levels from declining. The protocol's rigidity and hCG's affect on Leptin creates a very controlled environment. Hormone fluctuations from menses, stress, and uncontrolled environments would increase as well as decrease Leptin levels on protocol. It's mind numbing how Dr. Simeons created, through deduction, this protocol. Years and years of observation without modern knowledge. AMAZING.

Leptin Discussion, Guest Blogger Robin

The hCG protocol is much more then just the hypothalamus. Most of the work is done in the fat cell where fat enters the mitochondria (where it's used for fuel). If there is increased demand for fuel and leptin levels stay elevated, fat is burned optimally. Without Leptin...less fat enters the mitochondria and the body... is forced to find energy from other sources (ie muscle)....Science shows specific amounts of hCG stimulate Leptin! Yay for the protocol!

Leptin was discovered in 1994 and since then, science has come to realize fat is an organ. YES! Your fat produces over 6 hormones and those hormones have receptor sites in the brain, and other sites of the body. The primary hormone of interest is Leptin and this hormone controls appetite, fat metabolism, reproduction (menses), and much much more. Check our discussion boards for short explanations.

I'm greatful to Dr. Simeons but have come to realize we cannot use his theories and get anywhere in the medical community. The old double blind studies "disprove" his theories and doctors who refuse to read the manuscript or who are not up to date with fat metabolism would never consider Dr. Simeons protocol. In order to find answers and an up-to-date science based explanation, I started studying research articles on fat metabolism, the Hypothalmus, all of the hormones involved in hunger, and more. You would be AMAZED at the knowledge we've learned since 1994!!! The discovery of Leptin and grasping it's role in energy homeostasis is HUGE in the weight loss world.

Unfortunatly, most doctors, weight loss clinics, and the world havn't put the puzzle peices together yet. It's actually so simple and the protocol make perfect sense. Any doctor who understands Leptin will get my theory immediately, and will wonder why it hasn't been put together sooner.
