NuStevia

When I was in P3, I needed something sweet and went to the store to buy some stevia. The only thing they had was something called NuStevia. It said 100% natural right on the box, and I just grabbed it up and started using it. I *didn't* look at the ingredients list. Shame on me.

The ingredients included stevia, of course, but I also found maltodextrin and "natural flavors." If it's 100% natural stevia, why would you need to flavor it, exactly? Oh, yah, to cover up the other not-stevia stuff in there. I forgot. Shame on me.

Luckily for me, I didn't experience a gain because of using this particular product. But I can see where it could cause some problems for others, so I wanted to bring it to your attention...

  1. Yeah, most stevia brands have sugar alcohols, maltodextrin, dextrose, or combo of them. Some use masking agents to cover up the weird aftertaste that seems to occur when they use ethanol, methanol, solvents, enzymes, or a combo of them durin extraction.

I use SweetLeaf Sweetener stevia! They only use pure water during the entire extraction process, and the stevia is not blended with any making agents because they apparently have not felt the need to mask anthing up! The only thing it is blended with the stevia extract is soluble inulin fiber (found in their powder), which is a digestive aid--most of us don't get enough fiber!
